GBase: We’ve heard that you’re playing Kane while not being the director for the cutscenes anymore. Why has this changed?
Joe Kucan: Creative differences. I made it very clear to Electronic Arts from the beginning that if I was brought back to direct, I would insist that most of the roles in “Tiberium Wars” would have to be played by trained apes. Kirce would be played by a Chinese howler monkey; Ajay by an orang-utan; Kilian would have been played by a brachiating gibbon. The role of Kane, of course, would have gone to a red-assed mandrill. EA was reluctant. But I put my foot down and was eventually told that my directing services would not be required.
GBase: How did it feel to be playing Kane once again?
Joe Kucan: It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve gotten a lot of support from the development staff, many of whom were just kids when the original game was released. They were very helpful in reminding me just what it was that made the big, bald guy so popular in the first place.
GBase: Due to the new alien race, will Kane lose his position as “pure evil”?
Joe Kucan: Kane is pure evil? That’s weird – I always thought that Paris Hilton was pure evil. And I fully support any new alien race that wipes out Paris Hilton.
GBase: How do you personally rate the new C&C?
Joe Kucan: I’m not here to talk about the new C&C. I’m here to discuss Renaissance Drama and its impact on 20th century absurdist playwrights. Can you please ask me a question or two about that? Please?
GBase: How has it been for you to be playing side by side with Josh Holloway and Billy Dee Williams?
Joe Kucan Well, since Billy Dee Williams was on the GDI side, and Josh Holloway was filmed on a soundstage in Hawaii, I can honestly say without any fear of contradiction that they are two of my absolute favorite people whom I’ve never met. Josh and I in particular grew extremely close while not working together. We probably would have joked around and played all sorts of silly jokes on one another, if we had ever actually been in the same room. And I’ll bet they would say the same of me, if they actually knew who the hell I was.
GBase: Your colleague, the wrestler Kane, does have a look that is pretty similar to yours, what is your opinion about him?
Joe Kucan: He hits like a girl.
